Fairburn Avenue Boosters (FAB)  is a volunteer parent-led booster club with a mission to build and support the community of students, teachers, and parents at Fairburn Avenue Elementary School.  FAB has an all-volunteer Board of Directors that plans and manages the annual fundraising and community events at our school. These efforts, however, are only successful when we have support from our entire parent body. Our school relies heavily on generous donations of money and time from parents, and the funds raised by FAB go directly to support the enrichment of classroom instruction and activities, as well as the purchase of supplies and equipment.

Any parent of a student at Fairburn Elementary is encouraged to be a part of FAB. We have many committees you can join, from the pledge drive and special events to the carline and ever-popular ice cream Fridays. Whether you have a lot of time or just a little, there are many ways to participate and every bit helps. And if there is some area of Fairburn you would like to contribute to that's going unserved, talk to us and we'll help you put together a team to make it happen.

Meetings are open to all members of the Fairburn community and will be held as follows:

Wednesday, August 16, 8:00 a.m.

Wednesday, September 13, 8:00 a.m.

Wednesday, October 18, 8:00 a.m.

Thursday, November 16, 6:00 p.m.

Tuesday, January 16, 8:00 p.m.

Get to know us...

Laura Rogers, Co-President

“Four kids and 10 years ago” the Rogers Family came to Fairburn.  Laura’s oldest, Sam, graduated in 2012, followed by Charlie in 2013.  Madeline finished up this past June, and Joe will begin 4th grade this Fall!  Laura and her husband, Kenny (yes, Kenny Rogers), are longstanding parent leaders at Fairburn and are deeply committed to this WONDERFUL neighborhood school and its incredible community.  Laura is a Westwood native, who returned to her roots after stops in Boston, New York, and San Francisco.  She runs  Global Trading at a leverage finance firm and those early “market hours” allow her to “fit it all in.”  Got Question??  Ask this resident Fairburn historian!

Charlie Stickney, Co-President

The Trader Joe’s stickers chaotically plastered across the Volvo’s windows were a dead give-away — Charlie Stickney had kids. And judging from the small pile of phoenix branded t-shirts crumpled in the back, a Fairburn Father. It’d been a long journey from the small beachside town in Maine to Los Angeles and Charlie didn’t care how many bodies had been buried to get there. For the record, despite how many stars his Netflix cue said he gave the final season of Breaking Bad, the number was zero. Really. Just don’t ask his wife.

Kara Kirk, VP of Communications

Kara Kirk has moved A LOT (for work, for love, for more light!) but is happy to have found a neighborhood and community where she hopes she and her family can plant some roots. She spends her days publishing art books and evenings and weekends trying to keep up with her seven-year-old daughter, Zosia, who thinks her mother’s attempts to learn Polish—so she can talk to her in-laws--are quite comic.

Allison Bloom, VP of Fundraising

Allison Bloom has lived in Los Angeles for half her life, and half of that time has been in Westwood - you do the math. Going on her eighth year at Fairburn (daughter Piper Rutman graduated from 5th in 2016, and son Aidan Rutman is in 4th), Allison has earned the nickname “the auction chick,” known to talk to strangers as long as they’re willing to donate an auction item to the Fairburn cause. Best Day Ever: watch Battlestar Galactica at the gym, Sugarfish for lunch, cuddle with the fam.

Alissa Mafrice, VP of Fundraising

Born and raised in New York, when Alissa decided to move to Los Angeles after college to follow a boy (and attend law school), her family thought she was crazy.  Fifteen years later, she married the boy, and they are the proud parents of Alexandra (2nd grade) and Ryan (Kindergarten).  When she is not busy reviewing real estate contracts for The Wonderful Company, this former high school cheerleader can be found taking a Pilates class in Westwood or having dance parties with her energetic children.

Rachel Davidson, VP of Staffing and Student Support

Rachel grew up in Los Angeles, left never to return… and returned!

After living in the Midwest and on the East Coast, she can’t deny that the West Coast is the Best Coast.

Especially when she and her husband, Jeffrey Janger,  can raise their daughters near so many cousins, Uncles and Grandparents and can live in a community that supports a terrific school like Fairburn!

Mariana Flynn, VP of Staffing and Student Support

Mariana is the unabashedly proud mother of Gabriela (1st grade) and Cole who'll be starting Kindergarten at Fairburn in the fall of 2017. When she's not at work handling demanding personalities for the latest reality shows on her roster her focus is towards this welcoming and warm Fairburn Ave Elementary community. You can find her Pinteresting her heart away in her limited spare time. You know it's a problem when the 6 year old is now asking to hit up Michaels, giving directions on decor and design for the next party...

Rachelle Cohen, Co-Secretary

On most school days, you can find Rachelle and her husband Jon in their pajamas with coffee mugs walking to Fairburn.  They like pajamas and coffee more than the alternative (naked and thirsty).  Their two boys, in 2nd and 4th grade, are often in tow.  The boys are the ones wearing street clothes and not holding coffee mugs.  On weekdays Rachelle is a corporate lawyer, in the evenings she likes to cook and do yoga, and on weekends she is a soccer mom.

Visalaya Hirunpidok, Co-Secretary

Visalaya is the mom to Pai, a thoughtful and inquisitive third grader, who often astonishes her with his Sensei wisdom, salad making skills and whimsical imagination. Besides learning new ways to do math from her son’s homework, she’s gotten a crash course in all things Minecraft and is constantly trying to figure out the difference between mythical Pokemon creatures and real life animals. She loves to cook with her son and is trying to convince him that pizza is not an everyday food.
