WHY?

That’s a really good question. Why should you be paying anything more than you already do in taxes, astronomical west-side rent and mortgage payments? Isn't that why most of us decided to move to Westwood?  Why would Fairburn possibly need money?

Here’s the thing: LAUSD funds schools based inversely on the socioeconomic breakdown of the neighborhood. What that means is the nicer the neighborhood, the less funding the school gets.  So while LAUSD provides schools in less affluent neighborhoods with full-time librarians, art, music and P.E. teachers, here at Fairburn, we are just getting the basics.  They’re counting on the community to step in and fill the gaps.

And we do...

To recap, the funds raised by FAB provide:

Teacher Aides

Art, Drama and Music Education

Physical Education

Science and Computer Lab staff and materials

Library staff and resources

Field trips and classroom supplies

So please join us in supporting the school. Our annual pledge drive will be kicking off on August 31st. Over the coming weeks you will be hearing all about it (till you are blue in the face, no doubt). Our target this year is to make sure we have 100% participation and at $950 per student. It’s a big ask, but in the end, our kids are worth it.
